Getting youth soccer players off to a great start

There’s a reason soccer is such a popular sport the world over. It’s a game requiring very little equipment that can be played anywhere there’s an open field.

For young soccer players starting out, all they really need are cleats and shin guards. At Todd & Moore, you’ll find those essentials for players as young as 3, and you’ll find the expert staff to help you make sure everything fits properly.

We carry all the popular brands of soccer gear – Adidas, Nike, Under Armour, Diadora and more. You’ll find cleats and shin guards for all ages, as well as apparel and accessories. We’re fully stocked year-round, because soccer season really doesn’t end anymore.

You’ll also find help determining the proper fit. It’s advice that first-time soccer parents particularly appreciate.

Todd & Moore takes the guesswork out of shin guards

The rule of thumb with shin guards: The player should have two fingers’ space below the knee and three fingers above where the foot flexes up. As players get older, they’ll start to consider the position they’re playing as well as custom fit. For younger players, though, a lightweight fiberglass shin guard will provide both protection and comfort.

Manufacturers often label shin guards according to age and size, but the best way to determine fit is to try the shin guards on. It’s easy to do that at Todd & Moore, especially when our soccer experts are standing by to make sure the fit is fabulous, both in terms of comfort and protection.

Sock-style shin guards sometimes are popular with youth players. These are made with a layer of EVA foam built into the sock or slipped into a pocket so the foam can be removed for laundering. While the shin guard socks do offer enough protection, many leagues require players to wear uniform socks over the shin guard socks. That can become bulky and uncomfortable inside the shoe.

No matter the style of shin guards, players need to make sure they wear them, as well as game socks, when they’re trying on cleats. Soccer is all about the feet, and players who wear cleats that don’t fit properly will hurt their game and their feet.

At Todd & Moore, we carry soccer cleats for players as young as 3. They’re sized the same as regular shoes, but soccer cleats are often narrower and sizing can vary between different manufacturers. Players need to try them on.

Our experts will help make sure players from rec league to adult walk out with the perfect fit. We’ll offer pointers along with the best prices you’ll find in the Midlands.
