Todd and Moore Sporting Goods Celebrates 80 Years of Being South Carolina’s “Specialists in Sports”

COLUMBIA – It is with great pleasure that Todd and Moore, a leader and pioneer in the sporting goods industry, announces the celebration of its 80-year anniversary. Since its inception in 1944, Todd and Moore has been steadfast in its commitment to excellence, unmatched customer service, and delivering innovative products with exceptional value to its customers. This significant milestone marks a momentous journey of family, growth and success.

“We are very grateful to be celebrating our 80th anniversary of being in business.” said Chuck Todd, President of Todd and Moore Sporting Goods. “We are all lucky to be working at a job we so enjoy.”

Todd and Moore grew from a modest sporting goods store to a prominent sporting goods company that generations of customers, coaches, players, parents, schools and organizations throughout the Carolinas continue to rely on 80 years later. Charlie Todd and his brother-in-law, George Moore, Sr. opened the first Todd and Moore Sporting Goods in 1944 on South Main Street behind the capital building. In 1953, the store was relocated to 707 Main Street and remained there until USC purchased the property for the Law Center. Todd and Moore moved to its current location at 620 Huger Street in 1969. Chuck Todd and George Moore, Jr. joined the family business in the 1970’s and continue to the lead the helm today.

Todd and Moore has carved out a niche in the sporting goods industry by offering in-house professionals to provide personal assistance in tennis, pickleball, soccer, baseball, softball, team uniforms and equipment, football, shoes for every activity or need, athletic apparel and accessories, and letterman jackets. Todd and Moore delivers customized service to meet each customer’s needs.

Early on, Saturdays at Todd and Moore became a meeting place that coaches from all over the state would come to, to meet other coaches and discuss upcoming games, athletes, or filling open dates. Other times throughout the week you could find coaches like Frank McGuire, Joe Turbeville, Kirby Higbe, Bettis Herlong, Harry Parone or Eddie Muldrow on the “landing” drinking coffee, catching up and reminiscing. Coaches, customers and past employees still drop in today.

At the heart of Todd and Moore’s success is its ongoing commitment to its enduring relationships with customers, past and present staff, coaches, schools, community leaders, organizations, and the Carolinas. Todd and Moore would like to express their sincerest gratitude to all of those who have been a part of a remarkable 80 years in business and our story.

“Thanks Columbia and the Midlands for supporting us and all local businesses.” said Chuck Todd, President of Todd and Moore Sporting Goods. “We are looking forward to our 100th year in 2044!”
